Frequently Asked Questions
Sometimes we just have questions....
How to Prepare My Quilt for Longarming
How do I make sure my Backing is big enough for longarm Quilting?
Here is an easy way to remember: Four-for-Four ;-) I require the backing to be 4" extra ON ALL FOUR SIDES. For example, if you have a quilt top that is 60' x 80", your backing should measure at least 68" x 88". It can be bigger, not smaller. Extra fees may apply if I need to put extra time and effort into getting your quilt ready to load. If you have questions, please ask.
How do I prepare my top and backing for shipping?
I live in Tennessee, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. Once you have Marked the tops of your top and backing (if directional), and have checked to make sure there are no holes in the seams, embellishments and long threads and stitches that need to be trimmed. I'd recommend sending your materials and a copy of the intake form, enclosed in some kind of plastic sack or bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.
How do I prepare Batiks or Flannel Backings?
If you plan to use Batik fabric, prewashing may help remove the resist and make the quilting easier, or Flannel prewashing will help with the fact that flannel shrinks more than cotton.
How will you (Jackie's -CQS) prepare the quilt for Return Shipping?
I will send your quilt back to you using the best rates possible! I'm required by the State of Tennessee to collect a 9.75% sales tax for shipping. I will email you a tracking number, and please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with any shipping service, but I don't require it.
